Copy right?
In continuation to our blog news titled “Why students need the right to copy” posted on April 29, 2013.
In November 2012, The Association of Students for Equitable Access to Knowledge” (ASEAK) was formed to represent students side and they filed an application for removing the injunction order against the Rameshwari Photocopying services to supply “course packs”.
The publishers blame the Rameshwari Photocopying services, who is “neither the creator nor the ultimate user of the content.” And explains their solution that licences be procured from the Indian Reprographic Rights Organisation (IRRO) by the institutes themselves which could then themselves of the photocopying and distributing the “course packs” to students. According to him the annual cost will not be more than Rs 10-15 per student.
Director of Publisher Relations, Publishers Association ltd, feels that purchasing a legitimately photocopied version of the text books would not be more expensive than the books.
