IIA Library Successfully Organised User Awareness Programme on ONOS and INFLIBNET Services
The Library of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru, organised a User Awareness Programme on One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) and INFLIBNET Services on 5 August 2026 at the IIA campus in collaboration with the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre, Gandhinagar. The programme aimed to create awareness about the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative and promote the effective utilisation of INFLIBNET’s digital resources and research support services among the academic and research community. The programme was organised as part of the Library’s continuous efforts to enhance awareness about national-level scholarly resource initiatives and support researchers, faculty members, and students in effectively accessing and utilising digital knowledge resources.
The programme witnessed an enthusiastic response, with around 113 participants representing nearly 45 academic and research institutions from seven states across India. Faculty members, scientists, research scholars, librarians, and information professionals participated in the event, reflecting the increasing importance of digital knowledge resources in advancing research and higher education. The participation from diverse institutions highlighted the growing need for awareness about scholarly communication platforms, digital resources, and research support services that contribute towards strengthening the research ecosystem.
The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Arumugam Pitchai, Librarian, IIA. He welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of awareness programmes in enabling users to effectively access and utilise scholarly information resources and research support services. The message from the Director, IIA, was delivered by Prof. M. Sampoorna, Faculty Member, IIA and Chairperson of the Library Committee. The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. S. P. Rajaguru, Senior Professor, IIA, who emphasised the importance of collaborative initiatives in strengthening access to scholarly information resources and supporting research excellence. Prof. Devika P. Madalli, Director, INFLIBNET Centre, delivered an overview of the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative and highlighted its objectives, vision, and impact. She explained how ONOS is enabling wider access to scholarly publications and supporting researchers, faculty members, and students across institutions through a national-level subscription framework. As part of the inaugural programme, the distinguished guests were felicitated by Prof. Gajendra Pandey, Senior Professor, IIA.
The technical sessions were conducted by Mr. Raja V and Mr. Pallab Pradhan, Scientists-D, Computer Science, INFLIBNET Centre, who provided detailed insights into INFLIBNET services, including access to electronic resources and various research support services offered by INFLIBNET. The sessions covered important initiatives such as Article Processing Charge (APC) Support, VIDWAN (Expert Database and National Researcher Network), IRINS (Indian Research Information Network System), INFED (Access Management Federation), Shodhganga (National Digital Repository of Theses and Dissertations), ShodhChakra (Research Lifecycle Management Platform), ShodhShuddhi (Plagiarism Detection Software), and other digital services supporting research and academic excellence.
Through detailed presentations and practical examples, the resource persons showcased the key features of these platforms and highlighted their applications in discovering scholarly resources, managing researcher profiles, accessing theses and dissertations, promoting research integrity, and enhancing the visibility and impact of academic contributions. The sessions witnessed active participation from attendees, who interacted with the experts, raised queries, and shared their experiences, making the programme highly informative and engaging. The discussions provided valuable insights into the effective utilisation of ONOS and INFLIBNET services for academic and research activities.
The programme concluded with an interactive feedback session, quiz, and question-and-answer session. Participants appreciated the comprehensive sessions and the opportunity to interact with INFLIBNET experts. The event highlighted the significant role of ONOS and INFLIBNET services in strengthening India’s research ecosystem by improving access to knowledge resources and supporting innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence. The programme reaffirmed the commitment of the IIA Library towards promoting digital knowledge access, enhancing research support services, and facilitating effective utilisation of national-level scholarly initiatives among the Institute’s academic and research community.
