{"id":14,"date":"2012-07-26T06:59:41","date_gmt":"2012-07-26T06:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraryastrophysics.wordpress.com\/?p=14"},"modified":"2024-02-21T09:21:52","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T09:21:52","slug":"transit-of-venus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.iiap.res.in\/collaborate\/?p=14","title":{"rendered":"Transit of Venus"},"content":{"rendered":"<dl class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<h2>From Hidden Collection&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">&nbsp;The recent Transit of Venus that took place on June 6, 2012 drew lot of attention and interest among the public and scientific community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Historically this event is connected to Madras Observatory, as elaborate arrangements were made in the Observatory to observe the Transit of Venus that occurred in 1874 and 1882.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Chintamany Ragoonatha Chary who was the first assistant at the Madras Observatory that time, brought out a pamphlet to describe the phenomenon of Transits (over the Sun) in Tamil. This pamphlet was later translated into <a href=\"http:\/\/prints.iiap.res.in\/handle\/2248\/1321\">English<\/a> and other Indian languages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">IIA Archives has the copies of this pamphlet in English, Kannada and Urdu in its collection and the library has taken the initiative to bring out this pamphlet in a <a href=\"http:\/\/prints.iiap.res.in\/handle\/2248\/5827\">re-printed<\/a> form during this occasion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/libraryastrophysics.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/26\/transit-of-venus\/title-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-97\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-97  aligncenter\" title=\"Transit of Venus Cover Page\" src=\"https:\/\/library.iiap.res.in\/collaborate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/title2.png?w=214\" alt=\"\" width=\"167\" height=\"225\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The pamphlet was released by &nbsp; Prof. N.
